Kathryn Hall and Lorcan Gallagher Snag Jumper Wins at Kentucky Summer Horse Show

Lexington, Ky. – July 30, 2021 – Junior/Amateur-Owner and professional show jumping competitors took their turn in the spotlight of the Rolex Stadium first thing Friday morning. The High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumpers competed under overcast skies in hopes of snagging the division’s first big win of the week. It was ultimately Kathryn Hall and All In 9 who rose above the rest to claim the blue ribbon. Immediately following Hall’s win, the 1.40m Open Jumpers took over the arena to see Lorcan Gallagher and Ariana steal the victory as the final athlete to compete.

Kathryn Hall and All In 9

Ansley Wright became the first contender to secure the double elusive round over Anderson Lima’s (BRA) course aboard Diamanto JT Z. Wright and her own 9-year-old Zangersheide gelding shot to the top of the leaderboard with their clear and fast round. Tripping the timers in 47.620 during the tiebreaker, their conservative time would be good enough to secure a third-place finish. Holding onto the lead until the bottom of the order, Hall and her own 13-year-old Holsteiner, All In 9, left nothing on the table blazing around the ring, turning in a faster second-round time of 39.770, which would prove fast enough to top Wright’s lead.

Returning for her second ride of the class, Arani piloted Evergate Stable LLC’s, Hocus Pocus De Muze, the 14-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding, to 41.988 seconds in with all the rails intact during jump-off. Though they gave a valiant effort, their time was not fast enough to beat Hall as they settled into second place.

Kathryn Hall and All In 9

Hall began riding All In 9 three years ago, and with plenty of experience under their belts, she felt confident she could ask the talented mare for the extra speed during the jump-off. They will continue to compete in the High Junior/Amatur-Owner division during the Kentucky Summer Horse Show with one win already secured before heading to the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) in August.

Immediately following, 23 horse-and-rider duos battled it out in the expansive Rolex Stadium during the 1.40m Open Jumpers. Set in the power and speed format, Irishman Lorcan Gallagher did not need any luck snagging the blue ribbon as the final rider in the class aboard HKC Collection LLC’s Ariana.

The last horse and rider pair to enter the ring, and Gallagher’s fourth entry in the class, the experienced athlete had his strategy to take home the blue down pat. Utilizing the 10-year-old KWPN mare’s natural footspeed, the pair tripped the timers at a time of 29.876 seconds during the speed phase with a double clear, which proved just fast enough to steal the lead from Theo Genn and Damokles, who lead for a majority of the class with a speed phase time of 29.887 seconds. Genn and The Windwood Group’s 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood Stallion nearly managed to hold off the rest of the pack but were bested by just a few milliseconds. Sayre Happy and Darprin Enterprises LLC’s 9-year-old KWPN gelding, House, rounded out the top three posting a competitive time of 31.407 seconds during the speed phase and completing a double clear effort.

The Rolex Stadium will resume jumper competition at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning with the Low Junior Jumpers. Show jumping will continue at the Kentucky Horse Park throughout Sunday, August 1, with the $50,000 Rood and Riddle Grand Prix on Saturday serving as the week’s feature event.

FROM THE WINNER’S CIRCLE

Kathryn Hall – High Junior/Amateur-Owner 1.40m Jumper winner

On her All In 9:
“I have had her for about three years. She is a Holsteiner mare that just turned 13-years-old. We have gotten to know each other really well and she makes me feel really confident. She had come from Europe the year I got her. Daisy Farish competed her through the WEF circuit in the High’s and had a lot of success there, so she had been around the block.”

On Kentucky Summer Horse Show:
“This is one of my favorite shows! I have been coming here for about 10 years now since I did the ponies. My horse and I know the venue, so we felt super comfortable and I am really excited to be here!”

On her upcoming plans:
“I think I will just be competing in the High’s this week and am planning on heading to Young Riders in Traverse City in two weeks, so next week we will probably get a week off.”

Lorcan Gallagher – 1.40m Open Jumper winner

On Ariana:
“She is a 9-year old, Ariana, owned by HKC Collection LLC. I started riding her at a Nilforushan Equisport Events show out in Temecula in the spring in April. They came over here in the middle of May. We did Split Rock and Traverse City and just got back here to Kentucky. She has been super competitive all summer. She is fun to ride.”

On Kentucky Summer Horse Show:
“It is great. I have been living in Kentucky since 2012, so this is my summer home really. I was based just next door for over nine years. So it is always good to come back here. Hugh Kincannon and Bobby Murphy do a great job running the shows and the ring’s footing is as good as it gets.”

On his upcoming plans:
“I will jump Ariana again tomorrow since there is another 1.40m. She is very careful and competitive, but she is very green at this level and she has only done a couple of 1.40m classes, so once she gets comfortable at this height we will build her up a little bit before the winter in Florida and see what we have.”
