The Vanderbilt-Whitney heiress, Susan Humes, and Stan Bronson, a member of a branch of the Bronson family that sold the land where Walt Disney now sits, were united in holy matrimony in a sunset ceremony at the National Polo Center on November 18, 2023.

The marriage of these denizens of Palm Beach brings together two legendary families. First, Susan’s extraordinary lineage includes such luminaries as Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt and Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney. Over generations, this family made their mark building business empires of railways, shipping, and fashion, while bestowing America with timeless beauty and philanthropic variety. The names of their contributions are world famous: the Whitney Museum of Art, the Biltmore Estate, New York’s Adirondack State Park, the Breakers grand residence in Newport, Rhode Island, top-tier equestrian training and judging at premier venues across the country, Vanderbilt University, and the Vanderbilt/Whitney Studio.

Stan Bronson hails from a long line of Floridians whose family has made impacts across Florida, throughout America and the world. Beginning his career running one of the largest fresh citrus companies in the world and then on faculty at the University of Florida, he has turned his visionary leadership to working with the Stimson Center, a top ten think tank and world leader in innovation. He co-founded Stimson’s Alliance for a Climate Resilient Earth (ACRE) whose purpose is to reduce climate risk and resulting disasters, like hurricanes and sea level rise, and includes over 230 members of international corporations, nine national laboratories, 32 universities, finance and insurance companies, law firms, and nonprofit environmental organizations.

Palm Beach and Wellington are well-known for brightening each day with such marvelous events in the streams of history. It was a joy to attend.
